One Night I had a weird dream from the Lord! I was standing outside of a Catholic Church and looking at them doing the sign of the cross and did not feel compelled to enter the Church because inside of me it was wrong because obviously my focus was on what is wrong with the church such as Idolatry and religiosity.
Then God spoke to me and said:
"Look at them they have no reverence for me".
When He said those words, I knew not only that He wanted to Highlight the believers’ heart, but He also wanted to rebuke in a Fatherly way the Modern Church, including me, in some instances!
This message is food for thought for the Charismatic and/or Pentecostal Church:
- Is there reverence for God when We Enter Church?
- Are we understanding that we are in the House of God?
- Being a Holy place, do we grasp the fact that we are there to dwell in His Presence?
“Do you not fear Me?’ declares the Lord. ‘Do you not tremble in My presence?.”— Jeremiah 5:22, NIV
There is a subtle difference in making the church like Family and becoming too familiar with going to church, for example bringing our coffee in, talking to people, thinking about our lives and then only after really pursuing the Presence of the Lord of we are talking about a good scenario. I understand that we feel that God has related to us most of the time as our ” Daddy”, “best friend” and He has lots of Grace and love for us. But He is also our Maker and He doesn’t deserve Familiarity! He deserves our full reverence and Devotion.
“Those who have reverence for the Lord will learn from him the path they should follow.”— Psalm 25:12, NIV
Like a Husband that never take for granted his wife and keeps looking at her with the love of the first day! Reverence and Devotion will keep the Fear of God alive in us, that fear of never wanted to be where He is not! Fear of The LORD is the Beginning of all wisdom.
“For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”— Hebrews 12:6, NIV
It is what keeps us obedient and faithfully united to our Creator. Let’s purposely put this into practice, by showing reverence and by teaching it to our Kids! So that The Lord does not hold it against us on judgement day!
“Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.”— Revelations 2:4, NIV
